Toni Ford from Karanda Interiors, July 2014

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

For July’s Designer of the Month, we kick off the second half of the year with a look at the classic inspired yet modern interior designs by Toni Ford and her team at Karanda Interiors.

We love the way Toni and her team transform interior designs by identifying opportunities within designs to maximise any space’s full potential. It’s such a precise craft and they really work hard to deliver immaculate outcomes for their clients.

Drop in to Karanda Interiors and you will see BQ Design’s soft furnishings displayed in their blind and shutter studio alongside thousands of the latest fabrics, textures and wallpapers. A truly inspiring reference for interior design soft furnishings.

Toni took the time to share with us her expertise, her inspirations and her advice for those looking to begin their careers in interior design.

Scroll down to find a portfolio of her best work, and to read what she had to say about her work with BQ at Karanda Interiors.

Introducing Toni Ford

Tell us a little about yourself and where you come from?

I have always been passionate about design. I studied Architectural Drafting and have since gained many decades of experience as an Interior Designer. I am also a councillor with the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and have received a fellowship for my work running the Design Institute of Australia Student Council (DIAS), which aims to bring design to the students.

Where are you based?

Karanda Interiors is based in the Sutherland Shire in the suburb of Miranda and we have been in business here for over 40 years.

Why did you start Karanda Interiors?

Karanda began as a joint venture between my father and I. We're a very design-minded family and wanted to utilise our skills and ultimately create beautiful homes for clients.

What do you specialise in?

I specialise in remapping floor plans and work closely with builders, architects and draftspersons. I can help a client with any floor space issues they may have, whether it’s one room in their home or the whole floor plan. I work with clients to design their homes from beginning to end. This includes hard and soft finishes all the way down to the smallest details.

What type of clients do you work with?

I work with any client who engages my services, whether it is for floor plan remapping, new kitchen or bathrooms, or simply fitting out a bedroom, lounge room or dining room. I can help with all aspects of design and decoration.

What is it that drew you to this profession?

I was drawn to this profession for my love of design, detail and fabulous colours, which allow people's personalities to be shown in their home.

What advice would you give someone just starting out in the industry?

Starting in this industry requires dedication, patience and a will to never give up. I would highly recommend undertaking the highest course with a certificate or degree a person can obtain. Always pay attention to detail and never stop asking questions.

What inspires you as a designer?

My inspiration comes from everywhere. Every client that comes to me for help inspires me and I try to give them the design outcome they are expecting.

What are the benefits of partnering with BQ Design?

Partnering with BQ is always a positive experience. Every client order is always completed to a high standard, all the way through to installation. BQ Design delivers correctly and on time, and our clients love the outcome – both of which help BQ Design and Karanda excel.

Any big plans for the future?

Future plans for Karanda involve continuing to provide the best possible service and outcome for all our clients. We are also taking on more commercial work and hope to continue to grow this aspect of the company in the coming years.
