Bendigo Curtains has been providing high quality window furnishings to north western Victoria for an impressive 40 years.

During this time there's been changes in business name, owners, staff, look and location but Bendigo Curtains has always maintained it's reputation for providing quality customised curtains, blinds and shutters to its local clientele.

Since 2013, Sarah Lewien and Michelle Gray have managed a professional customer-focused team of design and technical specialists. Working as a team, they give their customers the ability to truly captivate the style of their dwelling making the windows the portrait of the home.

Recently we met with Sarah to find out more about her business, Bendigo Curtains.

Introducing Bendigo Curtains

Tell us about yourself, Sarah.

I have worked in the window furnishings in excess of 10 years and have been fortunate to meet some wonderful mentors along the way.

In 2014 I began an Advanced Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration which I have undertaken to help reinforce my skills I have developed over many years and also to evolve credibility with our clientele.

What type of clients do you work with?

Bendigo Curtains work with a broad range of customers on a domestic and commercial level. Whether our client has made a decision to build, renovate or simply redecorate, we can help them achieve amazing results.

We have been very pro-active in making ourselves known to many reputable Interior Designers and Decorators and have forged some great relationships over many years.

What is your business philosophy?

Our business is focused on bringing back old-fashioned customer service. From concept to completion we believe we are creating a holistic experience for our clientele and in turn we are seeing an ongoing increase of return customers and referrals.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I love being able to help customers when choosing their window coverings. I love exploring colour and texture. It's not just about knowing the product. It's about consulting with the customer and helping them find a balance. I get great satisfaction out of helping create a harmony within their home.

What do you like about your job?

I love all things fabric! I love exploring the composition of fabrics, understanding the textile and knowing how it will translate to any particular window.

What projects have you recently been working on?

We were recently blessed to have our curtains photographed for the November 2015 edition of Belle magazine Australia. It was a HUGE honour for us, to be involved with this awe-inspiring Bendigo project in collaboration with Flack Studios. We are thrilled to see the published results.

We've also been working on a lot of sheer linen curtains with a velvet leading edge and base banding. The monochrome detail in this project is simply stunning.

What trends are you liking in soft furnishings at the moment?

We are experiencing an exciting time in the wonderful world of window furnishings. Finally we are welcoming the long awaited return of a more softening influence in trending window coverings.

For me, I am loving the more organic look especially linen based textiles.

What are the benefits of partnering with BQ Design?

We are delighted to partner with BQ Design. We believe BQ Design encompass a similar set of ideals as our business. The quality and service we receive is second to none. BQ Design is a great compliment to our business.
