Working together they provide colour consultation, kitchen and bathroom design, materials and finishes selection, space planning, furniture selection and placement, soft furnishings, curtains and blinds and property styling for their mainly local clientele.

With every job they undertake they "strive to achieve harmony, balance and comfort in interiors, in the pursuit of client satisfaction."

Recently we met with the design duo, Jo and Trish.

Introducing Make Over Concepts

Tell us about you and your business.

In 2006, we met each other when we returned to study after raising our families. We continued our friendship after graduating and soon realised we were both on the same page with our passion for interiors and a vision for our future.

We started working together in 2009. Our business quickly grew and our partnership was successful, so we opened MOC in July 2010.

Prior to meeting and formalising our qualifications, we had both spent many years renovating and extending properties. We also had both operated our own interior design business. Jo's experience was mainly residential. Trish had a mix of residential and commercial experience.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Each decoration and design project is different. We seek inspiration from not only our clients, but also their personalities and what is important to them. The importance of one object in a room could be the only inspiration needed to transform their space into something special.

For our retail space we are obviously inspired by current trends and we take particular interest in what is happening overseas. We are avid travelers to London, Milan and New York. We make a point of traveling overseas at least once a year to view and experience what Europe and the US have to offer.

We both have a love of  fabrics and are almost always inspired by the look, feel and texture of a fabric. Colour is also a great inspiration and lays a strong foundation for any project.

We enjoy traveling to the Milan Fair for trends in furniture, kitchens and bathrooms and Chelsea in London for inspiration in fabric and wallpaper. We are hoping to get to Paris next year for the Maison & Object fair.

What do you like about your job?

What is there not to love!! Not only do we get to do what we love every day but we also share in our clients anticipation and excitement of the finished project. Meeting and working with clients and creating spaces that they love and feel comfortable in, is very satisfying.

What soft furnishing projects have you recently been working on?

We are working on a large contemporary project in Essendon and BQ will be assisting with the manufacture of all the curtains, blinds and soft furnishings.

We are also updating the curtains and pelmets in a period home in Moonee Ponds. In Brunswick we are working on a new build and BQ will be supplying all the blinds and sheers in this two storey contemporary home.

What are the benefits of partnering with BQ Design?

We have been working with BQ since the beginning and have had a very successful relationship. We are are hopeful this will continue into the future.

BQ has great customer service and has always been very reliable. Their attention to detail has been much appreciated. The BQ girls have been a wealth of information especially as our orders have been getting larger and more complicated.
